Wasp nest relocation — the gentle alternative
Not every nest has to be destroyed. For useful or protected species we first check whether a professional relocation is possible — better for nature, with no compromise on your safety.
When relocation is the right choice
For these species we look at relocation as the default approach, provided the circumstances allow it:
European hornet
Useful and rarely a problem in everyday life — if the nest is not right next to your seating area, relocation is often the best solution.
Paper wasp
Builds a small, open nest without an outer shell and is considered peaceful. Moving it just a few metres is frequently enough.
Bumblebees
Strictly protected — destroying a nest is not permitted. Relocation is only possible with cantonal approval and by qualified specialists.
Where relocation reaches its limits
We will be straight with you: relocation is not always possible or responsible. In the following cases we recommend professional removal rather than relocation:
- The nest sits right beside living space with a high risk of stings (for example in a child’s bedroom window frame).
- Someone in the household has a known insect venom allergy.
- The nest is already very large and relocating it would put the colony at serious risk.
- It is an Asian hornet, which is notifiable — a separate procedure applies here.
Relocation also comes at a fixed price, quoted after a free, no-obligation assessment.
